what can you do about the weather?
Everyone wants a glorious summer day for their wedding, but unfortunately living in England means there could always be that chance of rain, even in the middle of summer - but this doesn't have to pose a huge catastrophe!
Initially rainy conditions can present interesting opportunities for us to capture lovely, different and sometimes dramatic photographs, but there are some other precautions and steps to protect your guests, ceremony and your photographs!
umbrellas
OK, so you can't do an awful lot about the weather, but if it does rain, we advise you to have a contingency plan or provide some umbrellas to help cover everyone! Of course, we will bring a few umbrellas, and if possible, still attempt to have some outside photographs - even if it means some intimate huddling to escape the showers!
a sneaky wedding tip is to buy some matching white or black umbrellas and keep them in their packets - that way, if you don't use them on the day you can always return them!
indoor shots
Whenever possible, we will strive to get some outside photographs of the Bride and Groom and guests but if the weather will just not allow this, it's good to have a back-up shooting location - a covered balcony or an interesting indoor location. Our aim is to capture your wedding no matter what happens with the weather!
Inclement weather is something that really should be planned for - and if it does rain, embrace the weather and enjoy every moment of your wedding whether it's inside or out.
sunshine precautions
Believe it or not, although a sunny wedding day is a Bride's dream come true, strong sunlight can actually pose problems regarding photography. Midday sunlight has the potential of creating harsh shadows and dark rings under the eyes, so we advise our clients who wed in summer that if the wedding does have to be at midday then a location with open shade is chosen for photographs. The last thing wanted is the bride, groom and guests to look exhausted in the photos! If possible, wedding photographs are best taken in the late afternoon to achieve a beautiful golden tone and dramatic shadows.
A word of advice is to make sure if the weather is particularly hot (it does happen now and then in the UK) that the bride and groom bring a small towel to keep the perspiration levels down in the photographs, and plenty of water to keep the guests from dehydrating.
